Dyed Teal Duck feathers are used by tiers to make lake flies, Irish dry flies, or saltwater flies ( like shrimps ) . The difference between mallard barred and teal duck stays in how pronounced are the colors. That gives a better segmentation for flies and better contrast.
As we mentioned the dark/black mark is very bold. Based on fishermen experience these flies are more appreciated compared with classic mallard flank feathers which are more discrete barred or only spotted. The contrast provides a movement illusion and seems to be very effective for fish.
