Pheasant Tail Nymph is a proven nymph pattern for trout and grayling, based on one of the most famous flies in fly fishing. Our version: Troutline Tactical Pheasant Tail Variant Nymph is a proven nymph pattern for trout and grayling, based on one of the most famous flies in fly fishing. This version keeps the slim natural profile of the classic Pheasant Tail, but uses hare dubbing in the thorax instead of peacock herl.

The hare dubbing gives the fly a more buggy look and a softer natural texture in the water. It helps suggest small mayfly nymphs, larvae and other aquatic insects without making the pattern too flashy. This makes the fly very useful when fish are feeding carefully or when you need a natural searching nymph.

The pheasant tail body provides the classic segmentation and natural brown tone, while the thorax adds extra life and movement. It is a reliable fly for clear rivers, medium flows and technical nymph fishing, but also a very good general pattern when you are not sure what trout or grayling are eating.

Nymph details:

  • Classic Pheasant Tail style nymph
  • Hare dubbing thorax for a more buggy look
  • Natural pheasant tail body with slim profile
  • Good imitation of mayfly nymphs and small aquatic insects
  • Less flashy than peacock thorax versions
  • Excellent searching nymph for trout and grayling
  • Suitable for upstream nymphing, classic nymph fishing and Euro nymphing
  • Very useful in clear water and pressured rivers

Troutline Tactical Pheasant Tail Variant Nymph is a simple, natural and highly effective fly that deserves a permanent place in every nymph box. Is a general searching pattern and is one of the most popular and efficient fly even in our days. These flies are tied on barbless hooks.
