Troutline Balloon Caddis Cinnamon Dry Fly is a high floating caddis pattern designed for trout fishing on rivers with fast currents, broken water and active surface feeding.
The cinnamon body gives the fly a warm and natural tone, suitable for many adult caddis and sedge insects. The wing is made from CDC and deer hair, offering a good mix of movement, natural profile and buoyancy. The yellow foam “balloon” improves flotation and makes the fly much easier to see, especially in rough water or low light.
This fly can be fished dead drift like a classic dry fly, but it is also very effective when slightly skated or animated across the surface. The foam head keeps the fly stable, while the CDC and deer hair wing creates the lively impression of an active caddis.
It is a very useful pattern for summer evenings, alpine rivers, pocket water, fast runs and moments when trout react to moving sedges on the surface.

Educational note:
The Balloon Caddis is a well-known European caddis dry fly pattern, strongly associated with Austrian fly tyer Roman Moser, who helped make this design popular among fly anglers. Its main idea is simple but very effective: a small foam “balloon” placed near the head improves flotation and visibility, while the wing keeps the natural look of an adult caddis.
This construction makes the fly especially useful when sedges are active on the water. Unlike a static dry fly, a caddis often moves, skates or struggles on the surface. For this reason, the Balloon Caddis can be fished not only in dead drift, but also with small controlled movements that imitate a live insect trying to leave the water.
