Lead wire has been used for many years in tying heavy nymphs, with the most popular type being round-profile lead. Recently, fly tiers have started using half-round lead wire because it is much easier to work with and sits on the hook shank very well and stable. We highly recommend this type of lead for adding weight to your nymphs, wet flies, and even streamers.
